John Hirst announces Conservative plan to make home heating tax-free

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nanaimo-Ladysmith – John Hirst, Conservative Candidate for Nanaimo-Ladysmith, announced the next step in Andrew Scheer’s Conservative plan to help Canadians get ahead and save on their home heating and energy bills.
“In Canada, heating your home is a necessity – not a luxury,” said John Hirst “Residents in Nanaimo-Ladysmith keep telling they’re just not getting by due to overpriced home energy bills.”
That is why a Conservative government, led by Prime Minister Andrew Scheer, will remove the GST from home heating bills, including electricity, natural gas, heating oil, wood pellets, and other heating sources, to put more money back into the pockets of hardworking Canadians. This will save the average Canadian household $107 per year. These savings will have an even larger impact when Andrew Scheer also scraps the Liberal carbon tax.
“Of all the things Canadian homeowners need to worry about, heating and powering their homes should not be the first thing,” said John Hirst “Today’s plan, along with our promise to cancel Justin Trudeau’s Carbon Tax, will help make life more affordable for Canadians.”
Life is getting more expensive. The soaring cost of energy is especially difficult for seniors and those living on a fixed income.
“We are proud of this plan because taking the tax off home energy makes sense,” said John Hirst. “It will put money back into the pockets of hardworking Canadians. This is yet another way a Conservative government led by Andrew Scheer will help Canadians get ahead.”
