OTTAWA, ON — Gerald Soroka, Conservative Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, tabled Bill C-336, the Strengthening Reporting Requirements for Sex Offenders Act (Noah’s Law).

Bill C-336 will empower vulnerable populations by legislating repeat sex offenders’ compliance with conditions outlined under the Sex Offender Information Registration Act (SOIRA) under court orders.

“After 8 years of Trudeau’s backwards public safety policies and easy bail, dangerous repeat violent offenders have been released into our neighbourhoods – bringing with them heartbreaking consequences for innocent Canadians and their families,” said MP Soroka. “Mchale Busch, a young mother, and her 16-month-old son for whom the bill is named, Noah McConnell, were assaulted and murdered in Hinton, Alberta, in September 2021 by a registered sex offender living next door to them.”

Bill C-336 would allow a court to order that a high-risk offender must comply with SOIRA for 30 years to protect the public. They would be required under law to complete a sexual behaviour rehabilitation/treatment program, regularly report to a registration centre, and provide notification before moving to a new address.

“Trudeau’s crime wave comes after 8 years of bad policies that keep dangerous repeat violent offenders on our streets. It is horrible that any family should have to call for legislative change because they have fallen victim to the government’s failure,” said Soroka. “Bill C-336 will keep innocent Canadians and their families safe. Repeat, violent sex offenders should be bound to stricter rules to protect the lives of innocent Canadians and their families.”
