John Hirst Wins Conservative Nomination!
John Hirst became the 2019 Nanaimo-Ladysmith Conservative Party of Canada candidate after a convincing 147-81 win over Jennifer Clarke in the nomination contest today at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre. John, manager of Sun Life Financial in Nanaimo and President of the Gyro Club, celebrated with supporters following the announcement, which was made following four hours of voting today.
“John ran an exemplary campaign,” says Nanaimo-Ladysmith Conservative EDA President Mark MacDonald. “He was positive, thoughtful and demonstrated that he is a Candidate that our constituency can be proud of and rally behind in the next federal election.”
The 2019 federal election is scheduled for next October, although there is a possibility of a by-election should current NDP Member of Parliament Sheila Malcolmson step down to run for the NDP in the provincial by-election following the expected resignation from the Nanaimo riding seat after becoming the new Mayor of Nanaimo in last month’s civic election.
